Review: L'Oreal HiP Kohl Eyeliner

I was curious to see what these L'Oreal HiP Kohl Eyeliners ($13) were like. I tried Navy Kohl and Gold Kohl. It is "smooth and velvety, smudge-proof, wear-proof" iridescent kohl. Things looked promising from the tube. When you pull out the felt-tip applicator, which is really just a thin black wand that you're supposed to press into your lash line, crumbs of kohl get everywhere, so I recommend doing it over a paper towel. (Don't do it sitting on your couch, watching tv, like I did.) Mm-hm... Overall the colors weren't bad, but the entire application of this product is just a mess. I don't know where they get off claiming it's "smudge- and wear-proof" because those are the only two things I guarantee will happen. Fall out is bad. And a $13 drugstore liner? No. Hell No. Read more reviews at Total Beauty.

Hi! I agree with you, the cost is a bit nuts. But it sounds like the applicator is the same as the one in the Guerlain loose khol -- it's basically a stick, right?

I'm probably preaching to the choir and you already know this. These khols SUCK for on top of the lash line, pressing it 'into' the lash line does not work. But if you tap the stick lightly at the edge before drawing it out and apply to the *waterline* it is great. Stick the little stick at the outer corner of your eye, at an angle (not pointing in toward eye, more like pointing out at the corner of your eye, with your hand across your nose). Then, close your eye lightly and draw the stick across the waterline. When you open your eye, you should have a thick line of color that perfectly lines both top and bottom waterlines, and when it works it is great.

This is what my girlfriend uses and it looks really great on her.
