Review: Shu Uemura - Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil

The only Shu Uemura things that I have tried are the eyelash curler (of course!) and the lipsticks. That's because his products tend to be on the pricey side. There's a reason why I haven't forked over the $60-$70 for the Cleansing Oil. I want to know what I'm getting before I buy it. At $65 for 5 oz. the Essence Absolue Nourishing Protective Oil does not disappoint. This is back in stock after being on worldwide backorder since its Fall 2009 launch. Crazy, right? I'm not really very interested in hair products most of the time. I usually only have time to use one in the morning, so it's got to be good. Lately I've been quite facsinated by hair oil. I think that we have hard water in this house. So my hair has not been looking as shiny and nice and Asian as it should. This is a nourishing protective oil. It moisturizes and protects while adding high shine and UV protection. The first thing I noticed was how quickly it absorbed and how shiny my hair was. It can be used as a conditioner after shampooing, before shampooing and during color application. It smells of camellia petal and is truly luxurious. I've noticed a big difference in the texture of my hair since using it.

Overall, it's an awesome product IMO. However, $65 is a lot to spend on a hair product. If you've got the $ to throw at something, be my guest. I'm sure it's no biggie for Jennifer Aniston or Madonna, who are fans, but not necessarily for Average Joe. If you've got severely dry or damaged hair, go for it. The only thing that would make it better is if I could use it on my body!
