Bold Lip Colors to Try

Winter is a great time to experiment with deeper lip colors. I love a pink or coral lip in the summer, but now's the time for reds and browns and burgundies. Here are some of my picks:

Revlon's Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Crush is always in my purse. It's described as a balm fused with a lightweight lipstain in a chubby crayon. Depending on where you get it, it's around $8-10. A lot of times you can get a buy-one-get-one-half-off deal. The crayon swivels up and down so there's no need to sharpen it. These look similar to the Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balms ($16). The color is a deep purple.

If you have a lip color you'd like to deepen, try Ellis Faas Glazed Lips ($35) in L302. Slick on this sheer dark brown gloss over top of your lipstick. The highly pigmented gloss looks ultra-wet and the long, bullet shaped packaging is to die for.

Laura Mercier's Creme Smooth Lip Colour ($26) in Deco Rouge is a true red orange. Part of the Art Deco Muse Collection, this new lipstick is called the ultimate in color, texture and finish. The creme lipstick is rich and smooth straight from the tube. The color is bright and warm and lasts for around 2 hours without eating or drinking. I am excited to try other shades of this product because I love the formula and finish.

Also from Laura Mercier's Art Deco Muse Collection, the Lip Lacquer ($22, limited edition) in Laque Rouge is one of my favorites. I prefer a darker red in a lip color and this one is perfect. The color is rich and the formula is even better. It's supposed to wear for 4-6 hours without fading or bleeding. I didn't experience any bleeding but I don't have any fine lines around my mouth. I got around 3 hours of wear and it leaves behind a nice rosy stain. The texture is creamy and semi-glossy. Once applied it has a little sheen to it. I also like to wear a red lip pencil underneath so it has something to stick to.

As always, when wearing a deep lip, make sure your lips are 100% smooth. I use Sara Happ's The Lip Scrub ($24) in Cocoa. Read my previous review of it here. but you could easily mix together some honey, coconut oil and brown sugar and make your own.

*I purchased the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain and received the Ellis Faas Glazed Lips in a GlossyBox I purchased. The Laura Mercier products and Sara Happ Lip Scrub were provided free of charge from a PR Company or brand. That did not change my opinion of those products. See disclosure for more info.
