Meet Katie Anderson!

Meet Katie Anderson, a friend of mine, who works for Kiehl's. She has amazing skin, hair and makeup, so I thought I'd pick her brain about her beauty favorites. Thank you, Katie, for taking the time to share!

What is your job at Kiehl's?
I'm responsible for developing our staff and making sure customers have a great experience each time they shop at our store. Officially my title is Education Manager. Along with the other manager, I also take care of store operations and events.

What are your favorite products that they make?
Ah! I have so many favorites! For face, our Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate, Vitamin C serum is amazing. It feels like velvet on the skin as you apply it, and it has great benefits like line-reducing, brightening and improving texture. I also love Rosa Arctica Eye balm and the Rosa Arctica Lightweight Cream. For hair, I use Amino Acid Shampoo and Conditioner. They both contain Coconut Oil, which makes my hair shiny and gives it body. For body, I apply Creme de Corps with squalane, a luxurious, refined olive oil.

What’s your daily skincare routine?
My morning routine is pretty quick. I use Shiseido's oil-free UV Protector SPF 42 and then apply make-up. At night, I cleanse my skin with Kiehl's Blue Herbal Gel Cleanser as my skin is combination and sometimes acne prone. I then use toner from a French line, Biologique Recherche called P-50, to tone and exfoliate with lactic acid. Next, I apply my Rosa Arctica Eye balm, Vitamin C serum, and Rosa Arctica Lightweight Cream. Once or twice a week I'll do a treatment like Kiehl's Microdermabrasion, SK-II's sheet mask, or a mask from a Korean skincare line like Skin Food or Inisfree.

Have you always had good skin?
I've been quite lucky that my skin has usually been well behaved. I had clear skin as a teenager and in my early twenties, but am now prone to occasional acne. To combat breakouts I try to get Bio-Lift facials every few months, I also get laser treatments about twice a year for redness and pore minimizing. And I use Kiehl's Acne Blemish spot treatment.

What are your favorite makeup products?
I use Clinique's airbrush concealer under my eyes and on any small blemishes. Benefit's Boi-ing concealer is great for more intense coverage. For foundation, I like Make Up Forever HD or L'Oreal Mineral Foundation. For contouring I'm a longtime fan of MAC's Golden bronzer, which is a great for day because it's not very shimmery or glittery. I also just picked up a blush at MAC called Baby Don't Go. It's very natural looking but still give a bit of color and definition. Oh, and I'm loving the new Archie Girls brush set from MAC as well!

I've always been into doing a cat eye and currently use Sephora liquid liner in black or brown. The colors stay really true, and wear well throughout the day. Mascara is either Lancome Definicils or Maybelline's Rocket Mascara, always in black! I use the Chanel lash curler. I'm getting more into eye shadows like Fresh's palettes. I think I have all of them! And I love Chanel's gel shadows. The colors are blendable and so beautiful for a night look. For lips, it's always Yu-be lip balm followed by whatever I'm feeling that day. Top 3 lip colors are MAC's Lady Danger, Sephora's Perfect Nude gloss and Kiehl's Earth Day gloss, which, sadly, is discontinued

Do you color your hair? What kind of hair products do you use?
I'm going to be honest with you, I do color my hair! I've always wanted to be a redhead and I've now been red for about 5 years. My skin is very pale so I think my light copper color it suits me. Kiehl's Amino Acid Shampoo is my all time favorite simply because it works. Kiehl's Rice and Wheat Volumizing Rinse is great too. I'm also into Kerastasse Bain Mirroir. Morroccan Oil Light is my favorite leave in before blowdrying and I also use a Kiehl's Volumizer on the roots of my crown. About once a week I like to use Lush's BIG Shampoo. It has corse Sea Salt that gives great volume, but tends to strip color a bit so I have to be careful.

Any words of wisdom or beauty tips?
I think it's all about finding what works for you and what you love - trial and success! Try new formulas and have fun! I'm also a believer in samples. It's a no commitment way to test a formula for sensitivity or color. Most shops offer samples nowadays, just ask. I also think it's valuable to develop relationships with representatives at your favorite shops. It's always nice to have people looking out for you!
